Good Day Deviants

Hope Mother’s Day was fun for all:) I will be updating my gallery with some new illustrations this week. I am testing out some new markers I received for my past birthday and so far so good. Took some time though to figure out a pleasant combo for the eye. When mixing watercolour, ink and alcohol based products I have found that it is best to let each layer dry completely…or else one may create a swirly colourful mess. If you are going for the messy look then by all means mix away!

Anyhoo I know I have not updated in forever and a day, but really I have a good reason (please read above paragraph). I really would like to thank all of you who have fav’ed my work it means so much, but I know I am terrible at responding with thanks you back.

The last few times I have been on Deviant Art I have noticed that the subject of tracing has been the lasted hot topic. Well here are my two cense (I’m sure your dying to know) I trace me own work, especially when I am working out a concept. I know many artists who all so do this even in fashion design. I do not know of any artist who is making money who traces anothers work. Now having said all that I also know that it happens even in the art world forgeries in painting and less commonly in illustration are a multy-million dollar business. If you trace and put it in your gallery, call it your own well that’s your business, but please do not get upset or indigent when the artist notifies you take it out or face legal action.

Once I had to notify an artist (I use the term loosely) to remove a piece of my work from there gallery. I knew it was my illustration for two reasons. One it was changed in a photo program to different colours and Two the person kept the same title. Yep! I know and I’m not even a good illustrator (compared to the people in the business of it). So I was shocked and horrified to have to confront this person, but I did and they sent me an email apologizing over and over saying because they changed it wasn’t copyright infringement. My reply:

If it is not yours to begin with then it is not yours now!!! NO TOUCHIE!!
(*deep breathing*) Afterward though they posted in there journal about the work saying it was taken out because they no longer liked it!! What ever floats your boat dude?!

So I digressed…I know my work as an artist improves because I continually push my thoughts and arm muscles:) I can not even imagine tracing a work and posting it, calling it my own and sleeping at night was a clear conscience at night. Obviously some do…

Other then this experience I have had great out comes from posting my work online. I will say though be guarded where you put your work but don’t worry about it all. There are enough noble good artists out there who would gladly email or post you a note to tell you if they see your work in someone else’s gallery.

I could go on forever but I won’t…

*Update*
I have started a new series of illustrations entitled "Wall Of Faces". Each face is an emotion with colours and lines to match it. I am right now choosing emotions off the top of my head which is fun! I so far have Compassion, Pain, Joy, and Anger. I hope the emotions move you...
